PHOTOGRAMMETRY
REALLY, REALLY REAL
Technology never sleeps. The metaverse is speeding towards us even as we try to work out what the heck it’s all about. Even Mr Zuckerberg doesn’t know yet. One technological development that’s continuing to blow minds is photogrammetry. This enables objects, characters and environments to be created digitally. And, above all, realistically.
Endlessly adaptable
Increasingly indistinguishable from reality, photogrammetry can be used in conjunction with CGI or live-action video. Every aspect of a character – not just their skin and hair – can be adapted and manipulated.
Remarkable though photogrammetry is when used with still images, the potential
is even more incredible with animation. Through the use of virtual body and facial rigs, avatars can be animated by hand or be driven by motion-capture data.
Before your very eyes
This can even be done in real time, with live-motion capture data – with the result being streamed directly on to social media.
Say it loud:
Photography is dead. Long live photography.
