SILENCE THE ITCH

ANIMATION THAT SPEAKS FOR ITSELF

Many people with kidney disease suffer from relentless itching. They feel trapped in their own skin.

We were commissioned to portray this concept through a visual language that would encourage those suffering in silence to speak out. Featuring scratches on an actor’s body that moved like sound-waves.

Undertaking the photography, post-production and visual effect across all campaign assets, we built a suite of assets across all print and video deliverables that resonated with the audience.

The project was broken into three parts on the day, with the hero photography, photographic incidentals and video treated with their own considerations with final delivery in mind.

Moving into post production we could then adapted and customised the pigmentation and bleed of the scratch so that the registration and legibility were perfect. Done through non destructive skin techniques and colour work.

With the video, the design of the resulting sound-wave went into research and development, developing a style of animation that would work in-conjunction with the audio. Allowing the scratch to come to life.

Always prepared

We did plenty of R&D before the shoot. Formulating the best approach of how the scratches would be registered onto the different skin pigmentations of the talent, through to eligibility, scale and colour.

Taking an audio recording of the words “Speak out. Speak up”, we used this as our base to design and develop the graphics that were then printed as different tattoo transfers that were then applied on set directly to the talents skin by special-effects make-up artists. With other abrasions were applied to give us a few options in post-production.
