GANGS OF LONDON
ITS TIME TO PAINT THE CITY RED
The first series of Gangs of London became Sky Atlantic's second-biggest original drama launch of all time, with a 7-day cumulative audience of 2.23 million viewers for the opening episode.
With high expectations on the second series, the release needed to be big and bold. Using the game of chess as a vehicle, themes of power plays and dominance were brought to life, that feature so heavily in each characters’ battle for the soul of London.
The red storm brings the whole campaign together across all different types of media. The sense of danger in this show has been reinforced visually as a blood red sky, creating great impact and visually binding the campaign together across so many different media channels.
Our involvement within this project offset:
740.95 kg CO2e
Saving the equivalent to 370 x 10min - Hot showers.
Blending Elements
Each image was a complicated blend of CGI, photography and special effects created in post. Our pipeline ensured we could work fast to implement creative changes and deliver the project on time while maintaining quality control and consistency throughout the entire series of assets.
Our creative approach was broken into different components that required different skill sets to knit the final look together. From split frequency masking on the talent to maintain a uniform style, complex alpha masking and redrawing of the hair, understanding of cgi layers and compositing, creative retouching to bring everything together and finally colour grading all while keeping the file flexible for re-versioning.
Delivering Consistency and More
The entire project involved us delivering a cross section of 65 visuals that spanned across the all digital and print formats, DOOH, OOH, projections and social media. If there was a surface that could house a visual, Gangs of London could be found with this epic media takeover.
